In 1964 due to Marvin's father's failing health, he moved to the Alkali ranch where he was raised and later purchased the ranch in 1966. He took pride in the fact that he was able to keep the ranch in the family. He raised alfalfa and built a quality herd of cattle over the years.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. During his teenage years he enjoyed being a member of the Alkali Polo Team where he played alongside his Dad and brother, Ray.

Marvin loved to play cards of all kinds. Over the years numerous hours of Gin Rummy were enjoyed with his card buddies. He was an avid gardener in his later years. He loved to plant a large garden so he could share vegetables with family and friends. He was a life long member of Grace Lutheran Church and an active member of the National Farmers Organization in the 1970's serving as both County President and District President.
