Mary C. Scott, 82, passed away peacefully at her home March 24, 2016.

She was born July 24, 1933, at home near Newell, SD, to William and Ella (Timm) Cook joining three older sisters. She spent her childhood years in Arpan, Nisland, and the Newell area, graduating from Newell High School in 1951. She married her high school sweetheart, Gene Scott, on November 24, 1952, and spent 57 years together until his passing in 2010. Prior to marriage, she worked for the Belle Fourche Irrigation District.

After they were married, they lived in Newell where they began their family of seven. Gene's work took them to ranching where they raised their family. When the kids were older, Mary was a waitress at Weimer's Bakery in Sturgis for a couple of years and then started her career as a legal secretary for the Morman Law Firm. In 1986, they moved to the San Francisco Bay area where she continued her career as a legal secretary retiring in 1995 when they moved back to Rapid City, SD, at which time they purchased a travel trailer and traveled all over the US. During this time she worked part time with Wilson, Olson, and Nash, where she retired in May of 2014.

The light of Mary's life was her family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always ready for a good card game. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, and especially loved her flowers and butterflies. In the words of so many, she was an amazing, sweet, vivacious, precious lady who blessed many by always thinking of others first. She will be dearly missed.

Mary was very active in the community and her church, St. Therese Catholic Church,where she served in many capacities.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandy Scott, Rapid City; five sons, Bill (Debbie) Scott, Chehalis, WA, Mike (Vicki) Scott, Burkburnett, TX, Rick (Pam) Scott, Howes, SD, Bob (Tracey) Scott, Box Elder, SD, and John (Debbie) Scott, Rapid City, SD; daughter-in-law, Debbie (John) Rasch, Sturgis, SD; two sisters, Wilma (John) Price, Westminster, CO, and Shirley (Bill Trundle) Noonan, Carmichael, CA; brothers-in-law, Marty (Sharyl) Scott, Newell, SD, and Jack McClenny, Westminster, CO. Mary had 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; one son, Steve; her parents; one sister, Anne McClenny; and one sister-in-law, Loraine Kafka.

Visitation is from Friday, April 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD, with family present and a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m.

There will be a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Rapid City, SD, with lunch to follow. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to a couple of Mary's favorite charities.
