Black Hawk | Mary C. Ellis-Holter, passed away on January 7, 2017.

Mary was born on August 31, 1953 in Rapid City to Roland and Grace (McKenzie) Ellis.

Mary worked for the State of South Dakota as an Administrative Assistant for 17 years. During that time she worked for both the South Dakota School of Mines and SDSU School of Nursing.

Mary and Jim like to spend time camping, travelling, and taking drives through the Black Hills. She was an avid volksmarcher. Over the course of 30 years she took part in numerous volksmarches. She also enjoyed spending time with her dog and faithful companion, Freddie.

Mary is survived by her husband, Jim; sons, Nathan and Jared; daughter, Jessamine (Chris) Doolittle; step-son, Ron (Donna) Holter; one sister, Cindy (Paul) Hildreth; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; maternal grandparents.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.

A memorial has been established for the Black Hills Volkssports Association, PO Box 2046, Rapid City, SD 57709.
