Mary was born August 13, 1935, at Wasta, SD, to Orrin and Alice (Sheren) Gishwiller. She grew up on the family ranch with her sisters, Margaret Shyne, Helen Anderson, and Darlene Sundquist, and graduated from Wasta High School.
She married Perry Hall at Pierre, SD, on September 21, 1955. Over the next few years they lived in Wasta, Rapid City, Modesto, CA, and then lived in Rapid City from 1969 to 1991. Mary's lifelong focus was her family. Shelia was born to the newlyweds in 1956, and Clint joined the family in 1964. She was a homemaker, wonderful cook, daughter-in-law, Sister, Aunt, Wife, Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma. There was always more than enough food at family gatherings and her warm, fresh rolls, and roast beef dinners are fondly remembered by many.
Mary and Perry loved to fish, camp, hunt, and spend time with family and friends. Family and friends will remember the many fishing trips and deer hunting which was a large part of our lives through the years. Card games with family and friends were another popular past time, with Mary handling the hostess duties while also playing the game. After Perry passed away in 1991, Mary moved to Sturgis to be closer to family. Mary worked for the Home Health Department of the Sturgis Hospital for a number of years and continued to enjoy time with family and friends. Over the last couple of years, she has lived in an apartment at Heritage Acres in Sturgis and has continued to enjoy card playing, socializing, and an occasional trip to Deadwood with any one of her special nieces, Sharon, Judy or Jeanie. Most recently, she enjoyed the Sturgis Parade of Lights, riding along in the pickup which was pulling the Grace Lutheran Church float.
Mary was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Survivors include her son, Clint (Judi) Hall, Sturgis; daughter, Shelia Huston, Sturgis; four grandchildren, Stacey Parrent, William Huston, Jenifer Hall, and Austin Hall; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry; her parents; and three sisters.
A memorial has been established to the Lippold Hospice Suite at the Sturgis Regional Hospital.
