Mary Helen (Sanderson) Haverberg passed away peacefully Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the home of daughter Suanne Hayes of Deadwood, South Dakota. As was her nature, she was smiling, kind, gentle, and uplifting to everyone around her to the end. She was born April 25, 1918, at the Mitchell, South Dakota Hospital, the fourth child born to Maynard and Mary Sanderson, but first in her family born in a bona fide medical institution. The young Sanderson family soon relocated west to south Murdo, South Dakota area, where two more daughters were born and all grew to adulthood. Helen attended Rapid City School of Business following graduation in Murdo and met future husband Bob Haverberg who was attending South Dakota School of Mines. The couple married in Rapid City just after Bob's graduation in September, 1941. The following day they relocated to employment in the Flint, Michigan area, where they raised their family. Following her beloved Bob's death in 1990, she expressed a desire to spend her remaining days in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota under the watchful eyes of daughter Sue, who with husband Raymond Hayes were residing and working in Deadwood. Also preceding her in death were her beloved parents; brothers, Wayne and Melvin "Jeff" of South Dakota; and sisters, Ella Leckey and Loretta Gustaffson, both of California. Helen is survived by her youngest sister Elna and husband Jerry Miller of Murdo; her four children, Robert, and wife Peggy of Whitmore Lake, MI, Blake and wife, Melanie of Northport, MI, Suanne and husband, Raymond of Deadwood, and Patrice and husband Mark Bushhouse of Wheaton, IL. Also, there are thirteen grandchildren and step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Upon her request, cremation has taken place, and no services are planned at this time. Remains will be placed both in the Black Hills at her parents' cabin site and with husband Bob's remains, at their gravesite in Davison (Michigan) Cemetery.
