Mary La Rea "Peg" Briggs, 81, Piedmont, died Thursday, October 23, 2014 at her home in Piedmont.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church in Piedmont with Pastor Margie Hershey officiating. Private family inurnment services will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date.

Peg was born June 25, 1933 at Piedmont, SD, to Grant and Mary Fern (Shambo) DeHaven.

Peg loved animals of all kinds, especially birds. She had a soft heart for children, and would often be seen reaching out with candy or a comforting small toy to a child in need.

Survivors include her husband Mike Briggs, son, Gary (Judy) Briggs; daughters, Casey Lord, Mickey (Dennis) Day, Gayle (Donnie) Odean; brothers, Neal DeHaven, Elmore DeHaven; sister, Nelda (Floyd) Peters; grandchildren, Tim (Corrin) Lord, Amy (Matt) Timm, Matt (Jenny) Day, Steven Day; also 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Cyrus Odean; sister, Vera Freeman; brother, Gordon DeHaven and her parents.
