Mary Jean Richert, 82, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the Sturgis Regional Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel on Monday, June 20, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Bear Butte cemetery in Sturgis.

Mary Jean was born May 14, 1929, in South Sioux City, NE, to Victor and Mary Jane (Harris) Nelson. She was schooled in Sioux City and lived there until 1947 when she moved to Yankton. Mary Jean married Leonard Richert on June 21, 1953. To this union, their daughters, Judy and Vicki, were born. The couple then moved to Sturgis in 1967.

Survivors include her sister, Leola Poppin, Council Bluffs, IA; two daughters, Judy (Mike) Rose, Rapid City, and Vicki (Justin) Hostetter, Torrington, WY; and three grandchildren, Gary and Nicole Hostetter and Ryan Rose.

Mary Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leonard; two brothers; and one grandson.
