Mary Etta Scruton, 88, Spearfish, S.D., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at the David M. Dorsett Health Care in Spearfish.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at at the First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood, S.D.,with Pastor Steve Agan officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Mary Etta was born June 8, 1918, in Vale, S.D., to Bern H. and Blanche (Casteel) Shoop. She attended grade school and high school in Whitewood. After high school, she completed training as a beauty operator in Casper, Wyo.
Mary Etta married Alexander J. Scruton on Sep. 29, 1942, at Watsonville, Calif.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood. She also was a charter member of First Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas, Nev. and a member of Beta-Sigma-Phi and Mesquite Club of Las Vegas. Mary Etta also served on the Whitewood Cemetery Board and the Whitewood City Council.
Mary Etta enjoyed embroidery and party bridge.
Survivors include two sons,two sisters, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and great grandson.
Memorials have been established to the First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood and the Whitewood Senior Center.
