Matt Koski 83 of Spearfish, formerly of Lead passed away Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Fort Meade VA Medical Center. A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at the Black Hills National Cemetery, with Chaplain Moe Greiner officiating. The Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Matt was born April 29, 1923 to Nester & Aina (Johansen) Koski in Gackle, ND. He grew up and attended school in Lead, SD graduating from Lead High School. Matt joined the United States Army serving in WWII from April 20, 1943 until March 23, 1946. After returning from the war he married Eleanor Syverson on March 8, 1947 in Las Vegas, NV. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Koski of Spearfish, son, Dennis and his wife Suzanne Koski of St. Onge, daughter, Joni and her husband Carl Foos of Vale, brothers, Art Koski of CA, Oscar Koski of Reno, NV, sister, Mamye Koski of CA, two grandchildren, Krista Beckwith of Rapid City, Lindsey Oates of Sturgis, two great-grandchildren Levi and Noah Beckwith, and 8 step-grandchildren. A memorial has been established to the Fort Meade VA Medical Center ICU Unit in Matts name.
