Obituary

Maurice "Morry" Crow, 101, peacefully left this world on September 27, 2021, to join the love of his life, Lucy.  Morry was born March 31, 1920, at Stanwood, WA, to Virgil Bryan and Mildred Perry (Munger) Crow.

He attended schools in Forks, Beaver, Oak Lake, and Seattle, WA, before his family moved to Arlington in 1936, where he worked in a shingle mill before completing high school and graduating in 1938.  He attended a diesel school in Portland OR, and then went to work at Boeing in Seattle.  He attempted to join the Air Force after Pearl Harbor was bombed, but was denied because of a missing toe from a shingle mill accident.  When WWII began, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps.  He was a B-17 flight engineer and top turret gunner with the 332nd Bombardment Squadron 94 th Bomb group stationed at Royal Air Force Base, Bury St Edmunds in the UK. He completed 30 missions in the European Theater between October 1943 and April 1944. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Presidential Unit Citation, Purple Heart and 3 oak leaf clusters. He returned to Ellsworth AFB in 1944, and became a flight engineer instructor for the B-17 bomber until his discharge in Oct 1945.

While he was stationed at EAFB he met Lucille Lange and they were married on April 11, 1945, in Rapid City. They spent many weekends and eventually moved to Silver City where they spent much of their time hunting and fishing.  Along with Al and Lorraine Alberts, Morry and Lucy started the Silver city Fire Dept in 1967.  Morry owned and operated Crow Construction Company.

Morry lived out his retirement years gardening, fishing, and playing cards, but most of all sharing his stories with his family and friends.  He was proud to serve his country in WWII and was a true patriot.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucy; and sister, Aneita Marie.

He is survived by his brother, Ken (Rosemary) Crow of Washington, and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel, Sturgis, SD.  A private family service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, Morry's family requests that you give a gift to the South Dakota Air and Space Museum.
