Max was born May 27, 1935, in Coyville, KS, to Joseph and Alpha (Bentley) Marr. While still in Nursery School, he met the young lady that would become his wife, Janice Williams. They dated all through High School and they married on April 11, 1954, at Elko, NV. They were married 62 years and together for 77.
Max served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as a Yeoman First Class. On his return from war, Max entered college at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley, eventually graduating with a Master's Degree in education. After graduation, Max took a teaching position in Pendleton, OR. In 1963, Max joined the FBI as a special agent. He spent 23 years in the Bureau ending that career in 1986 in Grand Junction, CO. After retirement, Max started and operated his own private investigators service for a number of years. Max was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many family filled hours in the field and on the water.
Max Maurice Marr, 81, Rapid City, died Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Fountain Springs Healthcare in Rapid City after a prolonged illness.
Max is survived by his wife, Janice N. Marr; son, Richard Marr; two daughters, Diana (Dean) Heymans and Kellie (Blake) Thomas; grandchildren, Angie Marr Fielder, Blanca Sirignano, Allison Heymans, Chelsea Marr, Felicia Tietjen, Matthew Marr, Andrew Heymans, Ian Garduna, Isaac Heymans, Joseph Marr, Nika Garduna and Tyson Tietjen; great-grandchildren, Cameron Marr, Mckinsey Marr, Ayden Sirignano, Aubree Sirignano, Alivia Heymans, Max Sirignano, Mason Marr, Juliet Tietjen, Abigail Heymans, and Margret Heymans; sister, Jody (Bob) Dawson; brother-in-law, Joe Williams; nephews, Danny Miller and Jack Williams; and nieces, Deana Miller, Cathy Mitzie, and Michelle Dawson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at LifeSpring Wesleyan Church in Sturgis with Pastor Glen Duggin officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alpha Marr; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Vita Williams.
