Maxine Joy Rose, 68, Sturgis, died Saturday, September 13, 2008, at her son's home.
Visitation will be noon until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis with Pastor Joel Higgins officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Maxine was born October 9, 1939, at O'Neil, NE, to Alvin Frank and Bernita Mae (Shellhammer) Houska. They moved to Kimball, SD, where Maxine graduated from high school in 1957.
She married Earl Bob Rose at Kimball, SD, on January 3, 1958. They lived in the Chamberlain area where their three children were born. In 1968, they moved to Mobridge, SD, where they operated the taxi service until 1973.
The family moved to Sturgis where Maxine waitressed at local caf?s. She also worked at a local grocery store and was employed by the government as a census taker. She helped her husband in the painting business prior to the establishment of Rose's Sanitation in 1980.
Maxine was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the South Dakota Women's Bowling Association.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry A. (Renee) Rose, Sturgis, and Earl Jay (Lisa) Rose, Sturgis; one daughter, Jeanne (Dick) Nusom, Sturgis; one sister, Sheryl (Bud) McGraw, Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, LaDena, Amber Nicole, Ashlee Rose, Sturgis, Misty Dawn, Joshua Jay, Angel Rose and Kaden Rose, Sturgis; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one infant son.
A memorial has been established.
