IN LOVING MEMORY OF
May Catherine
Taylor
January 18, 1920 – December 27, 2011
May Catherine Taylor died Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at the Fountain Springs Healthcare in Rapid City, SD.
Memorial services will be held Friday, January 6, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses near Deadwood with Brother David Culver as Speaker.
May was born January 18, 1920, in Reynolds, NE, to Jay and Dehlia (Worleid) Lacy. As a young girl, May enjoyed working in the garden with her dad. In her high school years, she worked as a cashier in a grocery store. On June 10, 1944, she was married to Robert D. Taylor. They had two children: David and Anita.
In 1952, they moved from Fairbury, NE, to Carter, WY, when Robert got a job with the Union Pacific Railroad. They spent the majority of their life together in Wyoming working for the Union Pacific Railroad. Robert's job with the railroad required them to move all around Wyoming. May worked hard taking care of the home: washing clothes, cooking, and raising two kids. When Robert was gone, what May said was law. May's life was wrapped around her husband and her children. She always put them first.
One time the family moved to Dana, a railroad section, and got snowed in for two weeks. She told Robert to go and get the kids schoolwork at Walcott so they would have something to do. May drove the kids back and forth to the school bus, wherever that was. In 1962, the family moved to West Vaco and that is where the children finished high school.
May loved the old steam railroad engines. She loved to hear the whistle of the steam locomotives. She would look out her window and watch them put coal, wood, and water on before going on.
In 1954, May first came in contact with Jehovah's Witnesses; they talked to her in Carter, WY, a railroad section. May recognized it as the truth form the Bible. As they moved around Wyoming, the Witnesses always seemed to find them. May studied off and on for a number of years. It took longer for Robert, but he also recognized it as the truth. May and Robert were baptized together in 1982 after they had moved to Mountain View, MO.
In 1991, they moved back to Grainger, WY. Robert passed away in February of 2000. May firmly believed that Jehovah was real and she took comfort in the Bible's hope for the future. She hoped to see Robert again in the New World. She kept her faith in Jehovah's promises always.
May loved to make quilts and embroidery sewing. She canned and loved the outdoors. She could be quiet yet laughter would come through about many things. She was warm and caring. She was dainty yet bold - she had a strength that always came through.
