Maynard Lawrence Lang, 59, Newell, died Friday, March 16, 2007, at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2007, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Keith Nelson officiating. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard followed at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Maynard was born July 23, 1947, at Tyler, Minn., to Virgil and Marjorie (Bengtson) Lang. He graduated from Russell High School in 1965. After high school, Maynard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and served six years for his country and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After his military service, Maynard returned to Minnesota and worked for various companies around Marshall, Minn. In 1979, he went to agriculture school. Maynard's new career as an agronomist required him to move to different parts of the country. He lived in Monroe, Iowa, for 15 years, Red Oak, Iowa, Hanska, Minn., Balaton, Minn., and finally Wessington Springs. In September 2006, Maynard moved to Newell.
Maynard married Janet Gerber Murphy on Aug. 3, 2002, in Huron.
Maynard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was also a member of the American Legion Club and the NRA.
He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother, Donald.
Memorials have been established to Ft. Meade VA Medical Center and the NRA.
