Mazy Ethalia Weiss, 92 of Maurine, SD passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Rosa Jean and Jim Hendricks, Littleton, CO.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday June 8, 2010 at the Wesleyan Church in Sturgis, SD with Rev. Sam Cowles officiating. Following the luncheon at the Wesleyan Church fellowship hall interment will be 3:30 p.m. at the Monument Hill Cemetery west of Maurine, SD. Following interment there will be a time of visiting with the family at the Prairie Home Church with the Community Ladies serving coffee and desserts.
A memorial has been established to the Cedar Canyon Bible Camp, which Mazy was instrumental in establishing 51 years ago.
Mazy was born June 20, 1917 on Arnt and Cora Miller's homestead 23 miles southeast of Malta, Montana. Mazy graduated from Newell High School and Black Hills Teachers College. She taught school for 6 years. Then she was Butte County Deputy Superintendent for 2 years. On November 2, 1946 Mazy married Albert P. Weiss of Maurine, SD. They lived on the Weiss home ranch for the next 60 years. Because of failing health Mazy and Albert lived with their daughter Rosa Jean and Jim Hendricks in Littleton, CO until her death.
Survivors include her husband, Albert P. Weiss, Brothers Shirley and Ronald and Faith Miller, Mud Butte, SD. Daughter Rosa Jean and Jim Hendricks, Littleton, CO. Son Lyle and Miriam Weiss, Maurine, SD Daughter Linda and Jim Shada, Belleview, NE Daughter Coretta and Rod Anderson. Roscoe, SD , 9 Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnt and Cora Miller and brother Earl Miller and 2 sister-in- laws.
