Meriel was born January 25, 1929, at Cresbard, SD, to Fred and Edith (Gross) Hansen. The Celtic meaning of the name, Meriel, is "Shining Sea Nymph." With her red hair, shy smile, and sparkling eyes, she certainly lived up to her name. She loved her family and they returned that love. She accepted all 5 of us, including spouses, grandkids, and great-grandkids without question.

Meriel was a worker, always busy. She enjoyed gardening; her yard was immaculate, right down to her skunks and Kissing Dutch Boy lawn ornaments. She loved her pets, taking it pretty hard when they passed away. Even the garden snakes were safe in her yard! She loved her Pillsbury Dough Boys collection, even getting matching his/her Dough Boys PJs for Christmas one year! She was proud of her doll collection of which she painstakingly made all the dresses herself. Meriel was an excellent seamstress. She would see an outfit in a store but often times it would not fit. So she would buy the material and make her own!

Meriel was an excellent cook/baker. She made pies and jelly from their own apples, rhubarb, and strawberries. When you visited Meriel, always a dessert or a snack tray appeared. You never left Dad and Meriel's hungry. She also made the best coffee!

Meriel's house was spotless. Even when housekeeping got to be too much for her and she had help coming in, she would clean as best she could before they arrived. She didn't want them thinking she was a bad housekeeper. Meriel enjoyed decorating the house for holidays. At Christmas, it was all about Santa, her Christmas dolls, nutcrackers, fun decorations, and Christmas olive cheese balls.

Meriel M. McGlade, 88, Whitewood, died Friday, November 17, 2017, at Spearfish Regional Hospital.

She is survived by her spouse, Tom McGlade, Whitewood; children: Ricky Lillis, Belle Fourche; Tom (Donna) McGlade, Rapid City; Sue (Tim) Hinker, Santa Teresa, NM; Dan (Teresa) McGlade, Casper, WY; John (Mindy) McGlade, Casper WY, Bill (Kelly) McGlade, Aztec, NM; grandchildren, Jeff, Amy, Jared, Nicholas, Katie Jo, Erin, Josh, and Katie; and great-grandchildren, Regan, Cameron, and Daniel.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Black Hills Baptist Church in Whitewood. Inurnment will be at Whitewood Cemetery.
