Mervin H. Viken, 68, Newell, died Saturday, September 1, 2007, at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.

Mervin was born February 16, 1939, at Newell, SD, to Julius and Elaine (Long) Viken. He attended grade school at Horse Creek and graduated from Newell High School in 1958. He worked for Glen Steven at Glen's dairy in St. Onge and then worked for Dan Studiville on Horse Creek. Mervin was later employed at the Long Dairy and worked for Bob Donaldson. In the early 1990's, Mervin moved to Newell and worked as a carpenter. He also maintained several apartments in Newell.

He is survived by two daughters, Teresa (Bob) Halvorson, Douglas, WY, and Annette Johnson, Hamshire, TX; one brother, Roy (Kathy) Viken, Boise, ID; two sisters, Arvilla (Don) Kivimaki, Spearfish, SD, and Darlene (Jim) Hall, Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren; and special friend, Enid McMains, Newell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Linda, and one sister, Eldora Rearden.

Following his wishes, his body was cremated.

A memorial service will be held Friday, September 7, 2007, at the Newell Christian Fellowship Church with Rev. Sean Carney officiating.
