Michael E. Larsen was born March 3, 1942 in Arlington, SD, to Omer and Marian (Phinney) Larsen. He grew up in the small town of Badger, SD and moved to Sturgis, SD in 1957 with his family. In January 1960 he joined the Navy and served his country until May 1963. Upon his discharge he gained employment at Fort Meade Veterans Administration Medical Center, in nursing service, housekeeping, and then transferred to the boiler plant where he became supervisor until his retirement in December 1995.

He married Dixie B. (Crowser) Larsen on September 26, 1964 in Sturgis, SD, where they resided all their married life. To this union were born two sons, Shaun and Scott.

He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and in the outdoors, especially fishing in any season.

Michael E. Larsen, 79, of Sturgis, SD, passed away May 28, 2021, quietly at Fountain Springs Healthcare in Rapid City, after a battle with Alzheimer's, surrounded by his loved ones.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Dixie Larsen, Sturgis, SD; son, Shaun (Cheryl) Larsen, Phoenix, AZ; daughter-in-law, Lisa Larsen, Spearfish, SD; sister, Nancy (Bill) Hlavka, Peoria, AZ; four grandchildren, Josh (Samantha) Larsen, McKenna Larsen, Trevor Larsen, and Logan Larsen; one great-granddaughter, Layla Larsen; many in-laws; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Marian Larsen; and son, Scott Larsen.

A memorial has been established.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Committal service will be 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021, at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors.
