Michelle Marie Fischer passed away peacefully in her home with her boys at her side Thursday September 18, 2025. She had battled breast cancer for the last 2 years fervently while still working.

Michelle was born March 20, 1967 to Dr. Lowell Rost and Carol (Tastad) Rost. She attended May Overby Elementary and subsequently transferred to Roncalli during her junior high years. She graduated from Roncalli High School in 1985.

She and several of her friends all went to Moorhead State. In 1987, Michelle headed to New York to nanny for the next few years. It was during these years she met Tom. They stayed in New York until 1992 when they packed up a milk truck with all their belongings and puppy and headed back to South Dakota.

Michelle was married to Thomas G. Fischer October 9, 1994. They went on to have two boys, Stephen Ray and Johnathan Lee. Michelle was born to be a baseball mom and was at the fields every weekend during baseball season.

Upon moving back to South Dakota, Michelle became a staple of the Deadwood hotel scene. Throughout the years she worked at a handful of hotels, served on several city boards, and even got off work to answer taxi phones during events, but one thing for sure is that Michelle knew how to have fun and how to make friends. Deadwood being a pretty small, tightknit town, her work colleagues and employees became family.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Lowell and Carol, and her husband, Tom. She is survived by her loving sons, Steve and John; sister, Sarah and brother, John.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Deadwood, SD, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m., with a vigil starting at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Sept. 26, 10:00 a.m.
