Monica (Dunne) Landwehr was born in Spain, in northeastern SD, May 16, 1930, to Helene (Olson) and Peter J. Dunne. The family moved to Deadwood, SD, in 1933, and then back to northeastern South Dakota during WWII. Monica attended high school in Britton, SD, and graduated from Langford High School. She married W.E. (Willie) Landwehr in 1948; they had two daughters: Lee and Mary. The family lived in Britton, Claremont, and Groton before moving to Deadwood in 1970. For many years, Monica worked alongside Willie in various business endeavors.
Monica is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Lee and Demarest Crary, Bison, and Mary and Galen Roesler, Custer; her sister, Patricia Nietert of Aberdeen; and her brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Sherri Dunne, of Rapid City. She is also survived by four grandchildren, D.H. Crary, Ed (Sarah) Crary, Mary Lynn (Nicholas) Patterson, and Patrick Roesler (Jennifer Burnett). Monica has three great-grandchildren, Eva Crary, and Cayden and Easton Patterson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; brother-in-law, Duke Nietert; and her younger sister, Sandra.
Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis, SD, with Father Timothy Castor officiating. Inurnment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
