Obituary

Nancy Jean Richter, 64, Enning, died Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Sturgis Regional Hospital after a long struggle with cancer.

Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Harold Delbridge and Pastor Denzel Nonhof officiating.

A memorial has been established to Abbott House in Mitchell, SD.

Nancy was born March 12, 1949, at Hot Springs, SD, to Robert E. and Evelyn L. (Lorenz) Merrill. She graduated from Hot Springs High School and receiver her Bachelor's degree from Dakota Wesleyan University and later completed her Master's Degree from South Dakota State University.

She spent her professional career helping students at Western Dakota Tech for nearly 31 years as Student Services Coordinator and as interim Director of the Institute for a short time. After retirement, Nancy served six years on the Meade 46-1 School Board and five years on the Black Hills Special Music Services Cooperative Board. Much of the rest of her retirement was spent helping on the ranch, going to auctions and spending time with family and friends.

Nancy married Richard "Dick" Richter in 1976, and from that union two boys were born, Bryce in 1979 and Neal in 1982.

Survivors include her husband Dick Richter, Enning; sons, Bryce (Kristen) Richter, Sturgis, Neal Richter, Enning; mother Evelyn Merrill, Rapid City, four grandchildren, Ryleigh, Jordyn, Madisyn, Ryne, all of Sturgis; two brothers, Bob (Nancy) Merrill, Akron, OH, Craig (Sam) Merrill, Wake Forest, North Carolina; two brothers in law, Karl (Neoma) Richter, Enning, Bill (Helen) Richter, New Underwood, three sisters in law, Alice Richter, New Underwood, Carol Hahn, Wall, Ruby Gooden, Haugen, MT; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert, one brother, Larry Gooden, two brothers in law, Fred and Ted Richter.
