Obituary

Nancy Ann Shaw passed away on February 14, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 63 years old.

Nancy was born to William Reginald Hoskin and Elizabeth Florence Hoskin (Mikalonis) on February 7, 1952, the 5th child of seven, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Nancy married her high school sweetheart, Henry Dymnicki, in 1969. They would have two children together, Richard "Rick" Henry Dymnicki, and Jason Derek Dymnicki, before divorcing in 1978. She personally raised her two boys while working full time at Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, CT. While working there, Nancy also managed to get her GED. Despite being that busy, her boys can never remember a day they didn't have a home cooked meal when she got home from work, and still always made time for them.

In 1980, Nancy bought her first home right next to the home she grew up in, on Wareham St. in Springfield. Shortly thereafter, she met her soul mate and husband, David Dean Shaw, and they were married on February 14, 1981. The happy couple would have another son, Aaron David Shaw later the next year. In 1988, Nancy quit Pratt & Whitney to follow her dream of business ownership and purchased a "Diet Center" franchise in East Longmeadow, MA. The family continued to live in that home until September of 1991 when they moved to Black Hawk, SD.

Having sold her business, Nancy worked in the medical field as an office administrator, later getting certified as a medical transcriptionist, and later conducting sleep studies for a neurological center in Rapid City, SD. Nancy cultivated strong, lifelong friendships with her coworkers there. Following the tragic and sudden death of her husband, David, in 2007, Nancy picked up Dave's mantle for Heartland Payment Systems as a Relationship Manager selling credit card processing. While there, Nancy achieved vesting status with the company before retiring in 2013. Nancy took great pride and pleasure in the relationships and friendships made while working for Heartland.

True to her hard working and compassionate nature, Nancy again found herself helping people, finding a job with Comfort Keepers. She found helping people very rewarding, but rarely mentioned her good deeds, inside of work and out -many not even realized by her family until those she helped came to her side when she first became sick in January of 2015. We can only imagine how many others she helped and cared for that we may never know about.

Nancy went out of her way to talk about her faith, and in 2009 was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at a District Convention in Bismarck, ND. After her sister, Betty Jane's battle against breast cancer was lost, Nancy immersed herself in raising money for breast cancer research -raising over $10,000 through reselling merchandise on eBayas well as participating in breast cancer fund raising events.

Nancy loved spending time with her grandchildren, setting up sleepovers, tea parties, sundae bars and video game tournaments in her home. She also loved drinking coffee on her back deck enjoying the outdoors and beautifying her yard. Her dancing and "singing" entertained her family and her fun sense of humor made the family's weekly Friday get-togethers unforgettable. Her presence will be sorely missed.

She is preceded in death by both her parents, her brother Russell, her close friend & sister Betty Jane, and her husband David. She is survived by her sister Joyce (Merlo), and her three brothers, Bill, Gary and Mark; and her three sons, Rick Dymnicki, Jason (Kara) Dymnicki, and Aaron Shaw as well as four grandchildren who love and miss her very much.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Kingdom Hall in Rapid City.
