Obituary

Norma was born June 27, 1928, in Miller, SD, to Trubert James and Pearl (Brachvogel) Gravett. She was the oldest of six children. After high school graduation in Wessington in 1946, Norma moved to Huron to work. While employed as a bank teller she met her future husband on a blind date. She married Richard Rudolph Skavang on June 12, 1949 in the Crocker Lutheran Church. Shortly after they married, they moved to Hot Springs where their daughter, Pam (1952), and son, Gary (1953), were born. In 1955, they moved to Sturgis where Dick operated a Standard Station for 42 years. Son, Bob, was born in 1959 in Deadwood.

Norma participated in many activities - whatever the family was doing - camping, golfing, boating at the lake, skating, sledding, or snow skiing. Some activities she enjoyed more than others! Throughout the years she was active in Jaycettes, Voter Registration Board, and the Hospital Auxiliary. She belonged to the Martha Circle at Grace Lutheran Church. She loved doing crafts for many years and was especially talented in her embroidery. She spent many hours sewing for the Sturgis Senior Center and the Sturgis Hospital gift shop.

Norma, 88, Sturgis, died Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care.
