Orville Herbert Scovel, 92, Rapid City, SD, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Bill Zandri officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard.
Orville was born April 17, 1916, at Lehigh, IA, to Harley R. and Ellen M. (Myers) Scoville. He was raised in the Elm Springs area and attended rural country school.
Orville joined the US Army on March 6, 1942, and served his country in Africa and Europe. After his honorable discharge, he returned to South Dakota where he farmed for several years.
In June of 1952, he married Ruby Rogers at Newcastle, WY. They lived in Rapid City where Orville managed the Sinclair Bulk Plant. He also delivered petroleum products as a truck driver for many years. Orville retired in 1981. They moved to Sturgis in 1991.
Orville was a lifetime member of the VFW Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby, Rapid City; one son, Harley Scovel, Rapid City; one daughter, Karen Woolever, Wisconsin; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
