Otto Eberhart, 80, Sturgis, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at the Fort Meade VA Hospital.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and 8 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Rich Cullen officiating. Burial follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A memorial has been established.
Otto was born June 5, 1925, at Eureka, S.D., to Adam and Carolina (Oberlander) Eberhart. He attended Sully County School and returned to the family farm near Eureka.
Otto served his country in the U.S. Army from October in 1949 until May 1954 including a tour overseas in Korea.
After his honorable discharge he returned to Herreid where he continued to farm and began his paint contracting business. Otto also served as a police officer in Herreid for several years. He was a commercial painter for 25 years. After his retirement in 1998, he moved to Hot Springs for two years before settling in Sturgis.
Otto was a member of the Sturgis Kiwanis Club and volunteered at the Sturgis Food Pantry.
Survivors include his brother,four sisters,11 nieces and eight nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and two sisters.
