Patty was born to Harold and Charlotte (Backhaus) Hehn in Deadwood, SD on September 3, 1952. She grew up in the Spearfish/Deadwood, SD area and graduated from Lead High School. She married Paul R. Engel and later divorced. She was blessed with four children and ten grandchildren.

Patty was a very big part of her grandchildren's lives as she watched them play and grow. She enjoyed doing crafts and baking with the children and "family time" was very important to her. Even with the hardest days during her illness, she managed to try to be at every birthday, every
program, and every special event that each and every one of her grandchildren had. She was very proud of them and they brought her great joy. Patty was a very giving person and always put others before herself. She was active in her church, Blessed Emmanuel, and was a great steward of Christ to her family and everyone around her.

Patricia J. Engel, age 59, of Sturgis, SD passed away June 19, 2012, with her family by her side at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Blessed to have shared in her life are her mother, Charlotte Hehn of Rapid City; 4 children, Christine (Mike) Maltaverne of Rapid City, Paul Engel of Deadwood, Adam Engel of Sturgis, and Amy (Preston) Engel of Sturgis; 1 Sister, Diane (Bruce) Alkire of Florida; 1 Brother, Daniel Hehn of Sturgis; 10 Grandchildren, Austin Engel, Ijzaya Sterna, Teagan Engel, Allison Engel, Emily Maltaverne, Brianna Engel, Ariah Engel, Amara Reece, Dion Reece, Roman Reece; Several Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Hehn and her exhusband, Paul R. Engel.

A memorial has been established.
