IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Lou
Marshall
November 18, 1943 – February 3, 2025
Patricia Marshall, age 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. While she may no longer be with us, her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Born on November 18, 1943 in Bismarck, North Dakota, Patricia was the matriarch of a family as lively and full of character as she was. She married Keith Marshall, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and— no shortage of grandkids. Her daughter Roxanne, made her a grandmother for the first time and the blessing of many more grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren continued.
Pat was known for many things—her famous after-school cinnamon rolls, her ability to turn a simple visit into a conversation you never wanted to end, and her unmatched skill in keeping everyone in line with just a look. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, caring for everyone with the perfect balance of warmth, humor, and just the right amount of sass. Her quick wit and sense of humor were legendary, and she never missed an opportunity to make someone laugh with her signature "hu-hu."
Patricia is survived by her sister, Phyllis Rash; her five children: Roxanne Stands, Darroll Hopkins, Jackie Green, Tanya Reyes-Galindo, and Myron Hopkins, along with their families. She was the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Patricia's family is a true testament to the legacy of love and strength she leaves behind.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel Gallagher; her father, Charles Glum; her sister, Ione Louden; her two brothers, Kenny and Duane Glum; her son, Keeler Hopkins; great-grandson, Antonio James Updike Stands; and her husband, Keith Marshall, who are surely welcoming her with open arms (and hopefully a cigarette).
A service to celebrate Patricia's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 7th, at the Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Black Hills National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Patricia's memory by making a contribution to Feeding South Dakota (www.feedingsouthdakota.org) or by donating to the Monument Health Cancer Care Institute, which provided excellent care for her in her later years (https://giving.classy.org/campaign/630065/donate).
Though our hearts are heavy, we know she is watching over us, likely shaking her head and saying, "You better stop it with all that sadness." Her love, sharp wit, and unforgettable spirit will live on in the stories we share, the laughter we cherish, and the lessons she left behind.
The family would like to thank the Monument Health Cancer Care Institute staff for all the wonderful care that was given.
Condolences for the family may be sent to www.kinkadefunerals.com.
