IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Rose
Plaggemeyer
September 5, 1943 – January 22, 2017
Patty was born in Lead, SD, on September 5, 1943, to George and Blanche Sargent. Growing up, she attended the Catholic school where she was active in volleyball, basketball, and loved being in the school plays.
Patty grew up with a large family which included six protective brothers and three sisters. She enjoyed sledding down the steep hills in the wintertime in Deadwood with her siblings.
In 1966, Patty married Danny Gurwell at the Phil Town Hotel. They had one daughter, Sonya. They later divorced. In 1969, Patty married Neil Plaggemeyer and together, they shared five children: one daughter, Tanya, and three sons, Mike, Marty, and Troy.
They resided in Sturgis and later moved to Kansas for a short period of time. They moved back to Sturgis where they divorced.
Patty was a hard worker. She worked at McKee's Nursing Home in Sturgis and later at Bob's Family Restaurant where everyone always asked to sit at her station. Patty also had a second job working nights at the Trailside General Store.
Patty worked towards getting her CNA and began working at the Sturgis Community Nursing Home. Patty's last job was at the Fort Meade VA Hospital where she worked for 13 years upon retiring at the age of 71 after receiving numerous awards.
Patty loved working with the elderly people. This was her passion. She truly had a place in their hearts. They were sad when she left and asked about her often. The men often compared her to the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor.
Patty truly had a heart of gold! She would do anything for anyone, even give them the shirt off her back. She did the best she could at being a single mom of five children. She loved her children unconditionally and taught them service.
Patty's pastime enjoyments included going to the park with her kids and grandchildren for a picnic and a good game of volleyball.
She looked forward to her brother, Jimmy, coming up the hill to enjoy a cup of coffee and some Weimer's doughnuts. Patty and Jimmy were the youngest and were very close.
Patty was a fan of the slots and enjoyed on occasional trip to Deadwood. She was also a fan of the late Elvis Presley. She had many friends and coworkers that enjoyed her spunky attitude and beautiful spirit.
As a true friend, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she will always be in our hearts and we will remember the memories we created forever.
