Obituary

Patricia H. "Pat" Wiest, 83, of Jacksonville, FL, and a life-long resident of the Newell/Vale area, passed away November 11, 2008, at the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.

A memorial service will be held on November 28, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor John Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Patricia Anne Holdren was born October 13, 1925, in Sturgis to Dewey and Eloise (Holm) Holdren. She was raised in Vale and graduated from Vale High School in 1943. Pat attended Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL, graduating in 1947 as a member of the Cadet Nursing Corps. Upon returning to SD, she worked at the Rapid City Medical Center, primarily for Dr. Ray Lemley.

On October 23, 1949, she married Daniel C. Wiest in Newell. She was employed by Butte Electric Cooperative until her daughter was born. After her children were both in school, she returned to her work at Butte Electric Cooperative, where she served as Cashier/Receptionist until her retirement in 1986.

Pat was a member of the First Congregational Church (later the Newell Christian Fellowship) in Newell. She was a Sunday School teacher, a long-time member of Circle 1, and a member of various church committees, including serving as the chair of the Memorial Committee for many years.

Pat was a board member and active supporter of the Newell Museum for many years, and also served as Museum Board Historian. She was active in Scouting activities while her children were members, and was a past member of Eastern Star.

Pats passion was antiquing with friends and family. Her home in Newell was filled with her various collections. She was very devoted to her family, especially to her children.

After her health failed in 2005, Pat moved to Florida to be closer to her family.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Kristine Wiest Webb, and Kriss husband, David, of Jacksonville, FL; her son, Daniel úSkip Wiest, of Minneapolis, MN; her granddaughter, Nikla Eloise Lam, and Nikkis husband, Tu, of Orlando, FL; a sister-in-law, Barbara Staton of Rapid City; and many Wiest nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989, her parents, and by her aunt, Mildred Holm DiSanto.

Memorials have been established to the Newell Museum and the Newell Christian Fellowship Church.
