Patrick James Callahan, 76, passed away January 5, 2023 at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD after battling cancer, heart disease, and blindness for many years.

He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on April 11, 1946 to Frances and Mildred Callahan. Pat was the third child born to the Callahan's, he joined brother, Edward and sister, Mary. The family later welcomed little sister, Susan.

Pat attended school in Elk Point, South Dakota. At the age of eight he began working with his grandfather and other area farmers on their farms. This is when his love for work began. When he wasn't working he enjoyed fishing, camping, and swimming on the Missouri River. Pat also enjoyed flying.

In 1964, Pat started working for Petit Construction and worked his way to the Superintendent position. He was in charge of several large projects in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming.

He married the love of his life, Karen in 1978. Together, Pat and Karen started a road building business and after several years he began buying and selling heavy equipment for dealers. He loved his business and was forced to retire due to many years of cancer, heart disease and blindness.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Edward Callahan, and sister, Mary Girard.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Tom Callahan and Jon Callahan; daughter, Amy Juhala; two step children, Lori (Fyock) Karley and Jason Fyock; sister, Susan Potts; six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
