Obituary

Patrick Woodbury Chamberlain, 64, Whitewood, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at his home in Whitewood.

Visitation will be 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Fr. Arnold Kari officiating. Burial follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard providing military honors.

Patrick was born July 5, 1944 at Alexandria, New Hampshire to Woodbury and Helen (Greer) Chamberlain. They moved to the Black Hills at an early age. Pat was educated in Lead and Central City. He graduated from Lead High School.

Pat worked in the timber for his father. He also worked at the local bowling alley and the movie theater. One of his favorite jobs was working at the Days of 76 grounds in Deadwood. He loved the sport of Rodeo.

Pat joined the Navy and served his country honorably. He was able to rodeo in Spain and Mexico while enlisted.

Upon his honorable discharge he lived in Rhode Island and worked for the Pinkerton Agency, and drove trucks.

He married Ann Louise McAteer in Providence, RI, on August 14, 1967. The family moved to the Black Hills in 1970 where Pat built Peterbuilt trucks in Whitewood. He started working for the South Dakota Army National Guard as a mechanic and retired from the 842nd Engineer Company after 23 years of employment.

While retired, Pat drove for Trimac and for Dakota Bus Service.

Survivors include daughter, Mellissa Spencer, Whitewood; daughter Susan (Robert) Osborne, Rapid City; one son Leonard (Robin) Chamberlain, Fayetteville, NC; three sisters, Ramona McFarland, Sturgis, Wanita Jones, Sioux Falls, Wanda Benda, Jackson, MN; 8 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ann on October 8, 2008, daughter, Patricia, and one son in law Jason Spencer.
