Paul Andrew Erfman, 26, of Lead, SD, and formerly of Sturgis, died Saturday, September 14, 2013. He was born on Mother's Day, May 10, 1987 in Sturgis, SD to Dave and Phyllis Erfman. He attended Sturgis Public Schools and graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in 2006. In the fall of 2006, he joined the United States Marine Corps. His duty stations included Kaneohe Bay, HI and Camp Pendleton, CA. During his enlistment, he served a tour in Afghanistan. After his enlistment, he worked with his grandfather, Don and his father, at Hi-Plains Nutrition Inc. Most recently, he worked at the Sanford Underground Research Facility as an Infrastructure Technician. He loved spending time with his friends, family, and beloved dog, Mystic. He enjoyed playing sports, golfing, camping, fishing, playing cards, attending his brothers' sporting events, participating in rodeos with his dad, coaching his younger brother Sam's basketball team, and refereeing youth football and basketball. He loved having a good time and spreading his good spirit with the people around him. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis, SD, and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered with the Unified Special Olympics Softball Team. Survivors include his parents, David and Phyllis Erfman of Sturgis, SD; two brothers, Luke Erfman (special friend Katie Hoff) of Brookings, SD and Sam Erfman (special friend Misty Ahrens) of Mitchell, SD; his paternal grandparents, Don and Carla Erfman, of Whitewood, SD; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; special friend, Caitlyn Engebretson and many other dear friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Hugh and Bert Dalzell; great grandmother, Wynn Lindstrom; a great uncle, Carl Lindstrom; an aunt, Peggy Martens; and cousins, Brandon Dalzell and Heather Holt. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, September 19, 2013 with a Christian Wake Service to follow at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Sturgis, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 am Friday, September 20, at the Church with Rev. Michel Mulloy presiding. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery, near Sturgis. Military honors will be conducted by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard and the South Dakota Army National Guard.
