Paul T Schmidt, 79, South Dakota State Veterans Home – Hot Springs, SD, passed away December 12, 2025.

Paul was born March 24, 1946, in Mandan, ND, the son of Peter A. and Ida [Friesz] Schmidt. He attended Fallon Grade School and in 1953 he moved to Mandan, ND, where he attended St. Joseph’s School, then Mandan High School. After his Junior year, he joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, California. After the Navy, he moved to Rapid City where he met Judy Varney and they got married. Judy had 2 daughters, Jodi and Dede who he adopted. After his divorce he moved to Gillette, Wyoming and worked as a truck driver. Later he moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he married Doris Gange in 2001. In 2025 he went to the South Dakota State Veterans Home in Hot Springs.

He is survived by his brothers, Gary [Wanda] Schmidt, Mandan, ND, and Ken [Sherry} Schmidt, Grand Junction, CO; step daughters, Jodi & Dede; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; his sisters, Patricia and Janice; his twin brother, Peter; niece, Jean Ann; and nephew, Phillip.
