Pauline Louise Block, 94, Sturgis, died Wednesday, 10/13/2010 at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. A prayer service begins at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Church of Christ in Sturgis with Calvin Chapman officiating. Burial follows at the Bear Butte Cemetery.
Pauline was born January 22, 1916 at Crosbyton, TX, to Grady W. and Maude Lee (Johnson) Wilson Sr. She grew up in Texas. She married Morris S. Roe at Hereford, TX. They worked on a farm and Pauline started working as a cook in a restaurant. In the early 1950's they moved to South Dakota where Pauline worked as a cook in the Westerner and Coffee Cup Cafés in Sturgis.
Pauline married Jake Block in Sturgis in 1955.
She started the El Toro; the first restaurant to offer Mexican food in South Dakota. She operated the Taco House in Rapid City until moving to Faith, SD, where she operated the Gold Spread Café. After returning to Sturgis she opened Pauline's Snack Bar in the Meade County Courthouse until she retired.
Pauline was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and painting.
Survivors include her son Edsel (Carol) Roe, Rapid City; brothers, Elvin Wilson, Hereford, TX, D.D. (Norma) Wilson, Bartlesville, OK, Larry (Bobbie) Wilson, Faith, SD; sisters, Estelle Hopson, Sturgis, Sue (Keith) Keffeler, Sturgis; also 9 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two sons; Monty and Wendell Roe, brother Grady Wilson Jr. and sister Gertrude Millard.
