Pauline "Peggy" Mae (Hockesson) Permann, 88, passed away on March 1, 2021 at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip, SD.
Peggy was born in Hoven, SD on June 17, 1932 to Tellof and Buella (Thompson) Hockesson. She attended grades 1-12 in Gettysburg, SD and also attended one year at NSTC in Aberdeen, SD.
She married Harold H. Permann on October 25, 1953. Peggy worked for the South Dakota State Highway Department until Mary of 1960, when they adopted Jan Debra. At that time, Peggy became a stay-at-home mom. In 1963, Lon H. Permann was born. That same year, they moved to Mobridge, SD. In 1974, Peggy went to work for Davidson Chevrolet doing bookkeeping, eventually retiring in 1994. Peggy and HP often wintered in Mesa, AZ. She was involved with the Moose Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the United Congregational Church in Mobridge. Peggy enjoyed playing dominos and any card games, especially bridge, and she also loved to golf.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Jan Wenzel; son, Lon (Teri) Permann; grandchildren, Melanie Permann, Jackie Forstner, Jason Kalkman, Vivian Permann, Alex Permann, Tristan Permann, Austin Permann, Chante Permann, Steven Permann, and Fauna Permann; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Norma Harer of Gettysburg; her nieces and nephews; and many more family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, HP; her parents, Tellof and Buella; sister, Mary Lou Moore; brother, Gerry Gunsalua; a niece; and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. CST on Friday, May 21. 2021 at the United Congregational United Church of Christ in Mobridge, SD with Rev. Keith Kraft officiating. There will be a luncheon and fellowship at the church after the service. Peggy will be buried at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD with her husband.
