Penny was born Nov. 26, 1957, to Richard "Moxie" Gefroh and Judy (Strong) Gefroh in Britton, SD. She grew up in Amherst, SD, attended Britton High School, Stewart's School of Hairstyling and took business classes at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, where she and her husband lived at Richmond Lake for 15 years before moving to Sturgis in 2016.

Penny had many hobbies. She loved camping and planting flower gardens. She enjoyed traveling around the US and internationally, having visited Montana, Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, California, Washinton state, Egypt and Cyprus, just to name a few. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, engaging them in numerous activities, as well as eventually splitting her time between Sturgis, SD and Cairo, Egypt just so she could be close to them and her daughters.

Penny is survived by her husband, Derrick Herther; two daughters, from a previous marriage, Tina (Medhat) and Kelly Anderson; six grandchildren, Zachary, Cortney, Ayah, Omar, Zeyad and Moxie; her beloved dog, Sage, and numerous friends here and in Egypt.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dustin; her sister, Jean; her brothers, Kevin and Todd; her parents and grandparents.
