Peter Steve Burckhard unexpectedly passed away on October 27, 2022, at his Rapid City home due to medical complications at the age of 52.

Peter "Pete" was born to Frank and Karen Burckhard on August 29, 1970. He grew up in Bison, SD, on the Burckhard Family Farm helping his parents, playing with his three siblings, Paul, Heidi, and Angela, and developing a love for mechanics. He attended and graduated from Bison High School, his love for mechanics growing fonder as he grew older. From an early age, he loved tearing things apart, fascinated with how they worked. It wasn't until later in life that he learned how to put them back together, hence his famous line "if the girls can't find me handsome, they can at least find me handy."

Pete moved to Rapid City to continue his education at Western Dakota Vo-tech as a mechanic. He made a home for himself and soon after had his first and only child, Michelle Jeffery "MJ" with Lori Jeffery-Railsback. He was a loving and caring friend, son, brother, father, uncle, and grandfather, never hesitating to give to others even if all he had was the shirt off his back. He enjoyed the simple things in life: listening to music, testing out new recipes, working on his various mechanical projects, camping, fishing, attending the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and photographing his life and the people he loved. But most importantly, he valued the quality time he spent with his friends and family.

Pete is survived by his daughter, MJ (Jedidia) Bullock; grandchildren, Lux, Bjorn, and Zenith; his mother, Karen Burckhard; brother, Paul Burckhard; sisters, Heidi (Brendan) Matthew, and Angela (Chad) Anderson; his nephews, Theran Anderson, and Layne (Maggie) Matthew; and niece, Jessica Matthew.

Pete is preceded in death by grandparents, Tony (Barbara) Burckhard, and Andrew (Lucille) Gaupseth, his father, Frank Burckhard, nephew, Tyler Anderson, and grandson, Quentin Houser.

Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD. Private family burial will follow at Bison Cemetery in Bison, SD.
