Obituary

Whitewood Peter Patino Sr., 72, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Peter was born in Lead, SD to Josephine and Frank Patino on December 2, 1934. Most of Petes younger life was spent growing up in the Lead/Deadwood area with his nine siblings. He served as an alter boy at St Ambrose Catholic Church in Deadwood for many years. At an early age Peter joined the US Army and served during the Korean War. While stationed in California he met and married his first wife Wanetta. Through that union his son Stephen was born. He then returned to the Lead/Deadwood area and met and married Irene Block on March 19, 1969. The couple was blessed with five children. Peter provided for his family through employment at Homestake Mine from 1966-1979. He also held some part time jobs, which included driving taxi, Circle Foods Grocery Store, and J & J Tire Service. He loved his children and grandchildren. Pete liked to play cribbage and most of all he liked to socialize. He lived his life to the fullest. He would say to live forever in the past is wrong; it can only cause misery and pain so live for today. Anyone who knew Pete knew his favorite saying To know me is to LOVE me! Pete was blessed with the generosity and respect he gave to whomever he encountered in his daily life. He was truly loved by all that knew him and will be deeply missed. Survivors include one brother John JJ Patino of Deadwood, SD; three sons, Steve Patino of CA; Peter Patino Jr. of Rapid City, SD, Randy Patino of Sturgis, SD; three daughters Deb Patino and her husband Jim LaForest of Rapid City, SD; Denise Patino and her husband Dan Lafrentz of Whitewood, SD, Dawn Patino of Rapid City, SD; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
