Obituary

Nisland - Peter C. Stark, 59 of Nisland, passed away March 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 21, 1953 to Solomon and Philippina (Heidrich) Stark at Belle Fourche, SD. He was active in 4-H and lettered in track and basketball. He was confirmed at the Nisland Lutheran Church and graduated from Newell High School in 1971. He worked at the bentonite plant in Colony, WY until he enlisted and served in the army from 1974 to 1977. He was stationed in Berlin East Germany. During his tour he received numerous awards including Sharp shooter and several campaign medals. Upon return to the states he farmed with his father purchasing his own farm in 1990. He continued to farm for and care for his parents until their death. Through the 80's and 90's he was a professional hunting guide from Mexico to the arctic circle for WyoDak Safaris guiding foreign and US clients. He was a member of the Safari Club International and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Several of his clients have trophies listed in the Boone and Crocket Book. He was a member of the Nisland Legion Post. He married Vicki (Johnson) November 2, 1991 at Belle Fourche United Methodist Church. In 1992 they welcomed their daughter Stephanie to join stepsister Crystal and stepbrother Logan. He became a member of the Cedar Masonic Lodge #124 AF&AM in Belle Fourche on November 23, 1999 and joined the Spearfish Masonic Lodge #18 AF&AM on November 5, 2009. He later joined the NAJA Clown Patrol. And felt honored to be an elected member of the Divan. His passion was for helping the children. He found great joy in driving children to the Shrine Hospital in Minneapolis. His fun loving spirit showed through each time he clowned up in his costume. He loved to put on his fez and go to work at a Shrine Circus or any other fundraiser. He was deeply touched by the support of his close friends and Shrine family during his illness He is survived by his wife, Vicki (Johnson); daughter, Stephanie; stepdaughter, Crystal (Michael); stepson, Logan; brother, Ralph (Letha); sister, Dorothy (Vern); brother-in-law, Monty (Beth); sister-in-law, Brenda (Terry) and granddaughters, Emma and Samantha. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 2 PM at the United Methodist Church, 1804 7th Avenue, Belle Fourche, SD with Rev. Martin Earl officiating. A Masonic Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 4 PM at Masonic Center, 711 Main Street, Deadwood, SD. Entombment will take place 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard. A memorial has been established to the Shriners Childrens Hospital of Minneapolis.
