Phillip J. Fenner, 75, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on January 13, 2012 in Kent, WA. Our beloved husband and father, was the rock of our family and will be sorely missed.
After a long struggle with a brain tumor, he was surrounded by his loving wife LaVerna and his children Doug and Jon.
Born September 22, 1936 in Sioux Falls S.D. to Julia Hope Olson
He moved to Bonita Springs with his mother after birth and was raised there until entering grade school and moved to Sturgis S.D.
Phillip attended Sturgis High School and graduated valedictorian in 1954 was awarded all subject achievements in science, math and English. Missing the first month of first grade he was home schooled by his mother and was ahead academically.
Phillip attended the S.D. School of Mines Engineering School graduating in 1958 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. The same year he started at Boeing, from there he enjoyed a career as an engineer at GE and Honeywell. Phil was united in marriage to LaVerna Stuckle on June 17th 1961 in Seattle WA. He retired from Boeing after 30 years of service. He received many awards of achievement and advancements while working at Boeing.
After retirement he volunteered in various fields: tutoring at the Kent jail, very active in boy scouts with his son Jon including several 50 mile hikes with the troop, worked with Habitat for Humanity, helped coach his son Jon's soccer and baseball teams, coached track and field and T-ball for son Doug, served on the King County Developmentally Disabled also known as D.D. board, they helped develop workshops for the disabled, helped develop full school programs for children of D.D., strong advocate for all D.D. people and worked on legislative issues for the D.D. Phil said he was very blessed by the D.D. people, especially his son Doug who taught him so much and made him a better person. He was well admired, loved & respected by all who knew him.
He was an avid skier & hiker with his wife LaVerna throughout the western United States and Canada spent many years skiing with his son Jon in the northwest. He has developed a deep appreciation for Ferguson brand tractors with his son Jon, they restored 3 Ferguson tractors to factory quality and specs. Including many implements, Phil was the secretary, vice president and President of 1000(+) members world tractor club (FENA) for Ferguson restorers and collectors.
Phil was preceded in death by his sister, mother and grandparents. Phil is survived by his wife LaVerna, son Jon, son Doug, brothers Jerry and Jim (Arla), his niece's & nephew's.
The Family wishes to acknowledge the loving support and prayers from family & friends and David for his generosity.
We'll gather to remember his life at Trinity Community Church 3807 Reith Rd. Kent WA. Reception will follow; interment will be at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. "To be announced at a later date".
