Phillis Fern Lambert Seaman, 82, Spearfish, passed away, Sunday August 31, 2014 at the David M. Dorsett Health Care Center in Spearfish.
She was born to William Lambert and Vera Schnee Lambert on March 12, 1932 in Ekalaka, Montana, the fourth of six children.
Phillis was a talented artist, co-founder and president of the Black Hills Art Association. She has paintings located throughout the U.S. and overseas, including at the Kampgrounds of America (KOA) headquarters in Billings, MT, and the Buffalo Museum of America, Scottsdale, AZ. She was commissioned by the Tri-State Bank in Belle Fourche to paint a wall sized mural depicting the history of the tri-state area, she also painted a childrens mural for the Social Services office in Sturgis.
Phillis married Donald Seaman in 1948 in Miles City, MT, and shortly thereafter they moved to Newell, SD where they operated a gas station and garage. Together, they also purchased and operated a small farm where they raised their five sons; Dan, Timm, Jerry, Randy and Tom, and were Phillis had and art studio for many years. After Don's retirement from the U.S. Postal Service in 1988, they moved to Spearfish where she continued to paint. She was a member of Weaver Art Gallery in Sturgis, the Sheep Growers Association, Butte County Fair Board, and taught art classes throughout the rural area.
Phillis is survived by her husband, Donald, Spearfish; five sons, Dan Seaman, Spearfish, Timm (Sharon) Seaman, Hot Springs, VA, Jerry (Dixie) Seaman, Newell, Randy (Pam) Seaman, Tow, TX and Tom (Karen), Newell; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her Parents, one sister, Lois Engel, and four brothers Everett, Billy, Norman, and Laurence Lambert.
Visitation will be Wednesday September 3, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Kinkade Funeral Chapel Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Thursday September 4, 2014 at the Newell Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor Sean Carney officiating. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to the Newell Christian Fellowship Church or the Black Hills Art Association.
