Phyllis M. Burckhard, 94, Sturgis, SD, passed away at Avantara St. Cloud in Rapid City on Friday January 19,2024.

Phyllis was born March 26, 1929, in Spearfish to John and Lyla (Anderson) Henwood and graduated from Spearfish High School in 1947. She married Frank Burckhard March 3, 1956, lived in Arpan and later moved to Sturgis where Frank went to work at MDU. Cooking, canning, crossword puzzles, walking, gardening and watching the birds from her deck were among the many things that brought Phyllis joy.

She is survived by her four Sons, Francis Burckhard and John Burckhard both of Sturgis, Mike (Theresa) Burckhard of Park City Kansas, and Gary (Katrine) Burckhard of Upton, Wyoming; two grandsons, Dean Burckhard of Gillette, WY and Jaspper Burckhard of Upton, WY, and one sister, Sue Aker of Spearfish.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyla and John Henwood; her husband, Frank F. Burckhard; sisters, Helen Harris and Betty Harwood, and her brother, John Henwood.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Avantara St. Cloud for the care and compassion shown to Phyllis and her loved ones.
