Phyllis was born in Humbird, Wisconsin, October 25, 1916. She was the first of ten children born to Howell and Mabel (Stallard) Stuve.
She lived a long-full life devoted to the Lord and to others. Surely she could say I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Tim 4:7-8
She graduated from Humbird High School in 1934, and attended Wessington Springs College at Wessington Springs, SD for two years and earned her teaching certificate. She then taught school for two years to pay off her college debt. In 1942, Phyllis earned a degree as a registered nurse at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire Wisconsin. It was required that nursing students live in the dorm at the hospital and they worked at the hospital to pay for their nurses training. In 1943, she joined the US Army Nurses Corp with a number of her nursing classmates and served in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippine Islands for four years during World War II.
Following her time in the Army Nurses Corp she worked at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, WI, in the Maternity Department where they were very busy with the Baby Boomers until the fall of 1947, when she went to Columbia University in New York City. She earned a bachelor's degree in Nursing Education and trained in midwifery. She then taught obstetrics to nursing students at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, WI. She also worked at hospitals in Oklahoma City, OK, Milwaukee, WI, Minneapolis, MN, and Portland, OR. Her final years of nursing were at the Clark County Health Care Center of Owen, WI.
On October 12th, 1968, she married Neil Green of Curtiss, WI. They were married for 34 years. Though they never had children, they never tired of baking cookies every week for release-time classes, working at the church, helping neighbors, and sharing garden produce and canned pickles, jellies and much more with so many others. They always wanted to be the givers and did not take gifts from anyone without objecting. They both were so active with their church and gave of their time and resources to promote Gods love.
She is survived by four sisters, Virginia (Jesse) Bonney of Centrailia, WA, Mary (Carl) Harms and Janet (Robert) Anderson of Sturgis, SD, and Gwendolyn (Jerry) Pearson of Oshkosh, WI; one brother, Dwight (Norma) Stuve , Wisconsin Rapids, WI; many nieces and nephews and was a great support to all and encouraged them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil; her parents, Howell & Mable Stuve; three brothers, Franklin, Gordon and Paul Stuve; and one sister, Dorothy Kostlevy.
A memorial has been established to Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Curtiss, WI.
