IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Princess Darelgene
Shay-Goodine
September 4, 1925 – March 28, 2025
Princess Darelgene Shay Goodine, 99, of Sturgis, SD passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love on Friday March 28, 2025.
Princess was born September 4,1925 in Colville, Washington to Darrell Kostka and Waneta Richardson. She had one older sister, Paula.
Princess spent her early childhood in Canada before making her way back to the states where she resided in California, Wyoming and finally making her permanent home in South Dakota on the Bentshoe Ranch. She raised 5 children of her own 2 girls and 3 boys. She was a woman of many trades. She was a waitress for a great number of years, she loved a uniform with a nice handkerchief on the upper pocket and her matching earrings. Though small she could carry a full tray and never drop a thing. She made floral arrangements for a shop in San Pedro and had an antique shop at one time in San Jose. She ran Brownies, 4 H Clubs and Girl Scouts with her children. She was an actress in theaters in Lander, WY and once talked them into using a real goat from her very own farm in a show. She loved to dance. She was a beautiful crafts woman and loved to bead, sew and make jewelry. She loved camping and fishing.
In December of 1991 Princess married Lewis "Papa" Goodine. Together they had quite a crew with her 5 children and 5 of his own. Princess and Lewis had many great adventures together. They loved their ranch, animals and yearly Rendezvous/Fishing Derby's they had. Many memories were made.
Princess above all will be remembered for her beautiful and caring heart. She lived a lifetime caring for others with a door always open, a prayer and a hot meal on the table. She will be missed dearly by all that loved and knew her.
A last message from Princess to her family and friends, "Don't weep. I've led a full and wonderful life-I go in peace."
Princess is survived by her daughters, Julie Rast and granddaughter Holly Ingelson, both of California; daughter, Candi Rose (Robert) of California and grandchildren Carey Cummings-Thacker (Illinois) and Casey Cummings (California); son Darrell (Donna) Shay of California and grandchildren, Darlene Mason (California) and Mickey Shay (Arizona); grandchildren Glen (Mikal) Calatrello of Sturgis, Phaedra Lopez of California, Paul Shay (California), Ed Jr. (California), and Theresa (Memo) Jaramillo; their children Manuelle, Teagan, Xavier and Sophie all of Sturgis and many great grandchildren.
