Randy was committed throughout his life to service; to his country, his community, and his family. Enlisting in the US Army in 1974 began his career, training in Ft. Polk, LA, and eventually was stationed in Germany. After surviving a plane crash and serious burns, he was honorably discharged and returned to the US in 1977.
Upon his return, he met Susan McShane, whom he married and had two daughters with, Lisa and Melanie.
Meanwhile, his education continued as he earned a bachelor degree from National American University, in Human Services. This would prepare him for his service in the National Guard Reserve, and guidance of people in the correctional system.
One of the things that Randy valued most in his life was his freedom. A Harley-Davidson enthusiast, he never stood in one place too long. This is one of the reasons his yearlong final battle for his health was so inspirational. He faced the challenges against him, which robbed him of the freedoms of life he cherished so much, with optimism, courage, and dignity that we could all take great lessons from.
Survivors include his two daughters, Lisa and Melanie Cummings, Rapid City; grandson, Rylan Cummings-McFarland, Rapid City; brothers, Melvin Cummings of Manderson, SD, Douglas Cummings of North Dakota, Frank Cummings of Hot Springs, SD, Patrick Larvie of Pine Ridge, Arnold Cummings and Ben Cummings, both of Rapid City, Delbert Cummings of Grand Junction, CO; one sister, Joyce Salway, New Underwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers.
From all the family, friends, and people that have been blessed to have you in our lives, Randy Thank You. Here's to the next ride.
