Raphael Alfred "Bud" Beug, 95, Sturgis, died Monday, February 27, 2012, in Sturgis.
Visitation will be noon until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Willard Olsen and Chaplain Randy Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
Bud was born March 25, 1916, at Sturgis, SD, to Erich and Glee (Strayer) Beug. The family lived on a ranch on Four Mile and moved to Sturgis in 1923. He attended Sturgis Public Schools for his education. The family moved to their ranch on Alkali Divide in 1936.
On February 14, 1943, he married Doris Marie Cole at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis. Together, they farmed and raised cattle until retiring to Sturgis in 1975. He remodeled his own home and was very inventive and enjoyed tinkering with projects.
Bud was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church since 1932. He served on the Church council, building committee, and helped with furnishing of the Church. He was a charter member of the Alkali Community Club, founding and charter member of the Western Dakota Antique Club. In 1969, he bought the first steam engine tractor for the steam show. He was very musical and learned to play the violin, accordion, piano and organ.
Survivors include his son, Martin Beug, Sturgis; daughter, April (Irwin) Stoner, Sturgis; four grandchildren, Michelle (Phil) Boettcher, Rapid City, Marie (Zach) Sargent, Sheridan, WY, Jenny (Brady) Thompson, Spearfish, and Meagan (Rick) Radliff, Spearfish; eight great-grandchildren, Katie Regan, Caeden and Dax Sargent, Kellen and Liam Runyan, and Christopher, Tyler, and Nicholas Radliff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Dan and Ben Beug; and great-granddaughter, Gwyn Regan.
Memorials have been established to the Western Dakota Antique Club and Hospice of the Northern Hills.
