Richard Andrew Edwards was born November 2, 1962, in Deadwood, SD, to Guy and Gladys (Simons) Edwards.
He attended school in Sturgis, followed by work in the Wyoming oil fields. During that time an industrial accident left him with debilitating life-long pain. Soon after his 40th birthday he suffered a severe heart attack from which he was given five years to live. He lived another 18 years.
Richard loved people, especially his children and parents. His friends could always count on care, a place to sleep, and food if needed. Customers in his father's gas station, where he worked as a teen, really liked him and asked about him for years.
Rich had a lifelong interest in hunting and music. Loving nature, he spent many hours exploring the Black Hills and surrounding prairie. He appreciated a good visit. His children tell of his humor and silly songs.
Richard Andrew Edwards, 58, of Sturgis died January 15, 2021, in Sturgis.
Richard is survived by his father, Guy; his daughters, Guyla Edwards (Darren LaParr) and their children, Tyr Jaden and Xander Michael; Kimberly Edwards; and Jewel Rodriguez and family; son, Dean (Teresa) Plaggemeyer and family; and by his sisters, Guyla (Mit) Ness, and daughter, Katie; and Patricia (Craig) Henderson and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys; and his grandparents, Guy and May Edwards and Sam and Ada Simons.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ted Kinzler, Nate Salisbury and Josh Remington who were especially helpful these past few weeks.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 20, 2021, from 4-6 pm at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2021, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. Masks are required.
