Richard A. Jones of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on March 17, 2026.
He was born on April 28, 1951, in Great Falls, Montana, to Bruce and Bettie Jones. Richard grew up in Great Falls and Billings, Montana, and graduated from Billings West High School in 1969. In 1971, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as a hospital corpsman.
It was during his time in the Navy that Richard met his match, Marilyn (Petrusha). They were married in 1974. While stationed on the island of Guam, they welcomed their first child, Kevin. Later, the couple moved to Bozeman, Montana, where they attended Montana State University and welcomed their second child, Molly.
In 1987, Richard moved his family to Sturgis, South Dakota, where they lived until 2001, when they relocated to Rapid City. They later made their home in Box Elder.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Bettie Jones.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Marilyn (Petrusha); his children, Kevin (Amy) Jones and Molly Pope; his grandchildren, Cody Pope, Payton Jones, Addison Jones, and Kailee Pope; his siblings, Rodger and Judy; as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Fountain Springs Church – West Location (2100 N Plaza Dr., Rapid City, SD 57702), with a reception to follow.
