IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Alban
Kopp
October 16, 1948 – June 4, 2016
Dick was born to Al and Eleanor (Jahner) Kopp October 16, 1948, in Mott, ND. He attended grade school at St. Martin's Academy in Sturgis and graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in 1966.
He joined the Navy in 1966, where he served four years which included service in Japan and Vietnam. Dik was very proud to serve his country and to be an American. Veterans have always been dear to his heart.
In 1971, he married Debbie Bruse and to this union three children were born; Kirk, Heath and Justin.
Throughout his life he enjoyed being a mechanic for the Ford Motor Company in various cities. During this time he formed the band (DK & The Coachmen). Eventually due to a funny mishap they became the "Broken Coach." His fellow musicians became best lifelong friends and stayed in contact. Last summer they had a reunion jam session at "The Knuckle" in Sturgis, SD. All their musical talent was just as great as in the early days (even without practicing).
On June 21, 1990, he married his soul mate, Suzanne Hogan, and to this union a son, Jesse James Perry, was born.
Dik was diagnosed with an unknown primary cancer with metastases to the bone, lymph system and brain in May of 2015. He never complained and was always concerned about others. He was "Our Hero" in this brave battle he fought.
On Saturday June 4, 2016, "Our Hero" Dik Kopp, 67, took his last breath as he joined his maker in heaven. He passed away peacefully at the Ft. Meade VA Hospice Unit with his son, wife, and siblings by his side.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Kopp; sons, Kirk (Amber) Kopp, Heath (Sarah) Kopp, Justin Kopp, and Jesse Kopp; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; two brothers, Dennis (Tina) Kopp and Neil (Mary) Kopp; four sisters, Bonnie Bruch, Patti (Kim) Coe, Connie Grayum, and Carmen (Todd) Sherman; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Kopp-Wright; father, Al Kopp; and stepfather, Lee Wright; two nephews, Trent Coe and Byron Crown; and brother-in-law, (Doug Grayum). Enjoy that heavenly ride.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD, with Father Timothy Castor officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
