Richard Milton "Dick" Reid, 86, Rapid City, died, Friday, October 11, 2013, at Fountain Springs in Rapid City.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013, at the Pine Slope Cemetery near Belle Fourche with pastor Paul Howard officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Rapid City Regional Hospice.
Richard was born October 29, 1926, at Fort Bliss, TX, to Gerald and Olive (Gurwell) Reid. In December of 1942, he moved to Belle Fourche and graduated from High School in 1944. In May of 1945, he entered the Army and received basic Infantry Training at Camp Livingston, LA. He served in the 33rd Infantry Division and various engineering units in Japan and the Philippines. After the war, he graduated from Colorado A&M as a mechanical engineer and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the Army Artillery. He served for ten years in the Colorado National Guard and the Army Reserve.
After 30 years with AT&T, Dick retired in 1983 and returned to live in Lawrence County near Spearfish. He later moved to Rapid City to live at Holiday Hills Retirement Home.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Cris (Woody) Garrett, Hayden, ID; son, Jim (Michelle) Reid, Billings, MT; four grandchildren; one aunt; and several cousins.
